Comparison

Write It vs Notion AI

Notion AI is excellent for notes, planning, and everything that lives in Notion. Assignments do not usually live in Notion.

Write It teamUpdated 2 min read

Notion AI is very good at what it does. What it does is not writing the essay you turn in — unless you are willing to move the essay at the end, and that move is where the problems start.

Where Notion AI earns its place

If you keep class notes, reading summaries, and project plans in Notion, its AI can search across all of it and answer questions from your own material. That is genuinely useful during the research and thinking phase of a paper, and Write It does not replace it.

The handoff problem

The trouble is the last step. Draft the essay in Notion, then paste it into the Google Doc your class submits from, and two things happen: the formatting shifts — heading styles, block quotes, and citation spacing all translate imperfectly — and the document’s revision history shows the entire paper appearing at one timestamp.

Write It avoids the handoff by working in the destination document from the start. If you want to keep researching in Notion, that is fine — do the thinking there and the writing in Docs.

What Write It adds for the actual assignment

  • Research Mode. Set MLA 9, APA 7, Chicago, or IEEE, search for sources, keep a per-project library, and insert a formatted Works Cited.
  • Apollo Agent Mode. Plans and drafts section by section inside the doc, holding to your tone and rubric constraints.
  • AI Humanizer and AI Detector. Rewrite what reads as machine-written, and see what still does.
  • The auto typer. Text enters the document the way typing does.

Keep Notion for thinking, use Write It for turning it in

Install Write It and write the actual assignment in the document it gets submitted from.

They are not really competing

Pick Write It when

  • The deliverable is a Google Doc your teacher will open.
  • You need citations, source management, or typing that looks like typing.
  • You want the draft humanized before it goes anywhere.

Pick Notion AI when

  • You are organizing research notes, planning a project, or writing something that lives in Notion.
  • You want AI that can answer questions using your own accumulated notes.

Bottom line: These solve different problems and using both is the normal answer. Notion AI is strong at the thinking-and-organizing stage; Write It is built for the document that gets submitted. Where students get burned is drafting an essay in Notion and pasting it into Docs at the end — that paste is visible in version history and the formatting rarely survives.

Frequently asked questions

Can Notion AI write in Google Docs?
No. Notion AI operates inside Notion pages. Getting that text into a Google Doc means copying and pasting, which flattens formatting and shows up as a single paste in the document’s revision history.
Should I use both?
That is the common setup. Notion for notes, sources, and planning; Write It for drafting, citing, and finishing the document you submit.
Does Write It work outside Google Docs?
Write It runs in Google Docs with the full toolkit, in Microsoft Word on the web, and in Google Slides with a lighter feature set.
How much does Write It cost?
Write It is free to start with 5,000 tokens at signup. Plus is $10 a month or $96 a year and includes 100,000 tokens a month. Premium is $15 a month or $144 a year and includes 200,000 tokens a month. Unused tokens roll over on both paid plans.
