The fastest ways to make money as a student

Most “fast money” advice is junk — either scams, or normal jobs relabeled as fast. The honest version of this list sorts everything by one question: when does the money actually reach your account? By that clock, there are three tiers.

Tier 1: money today

• Sell something locally for cash. The genuinely fastest legal money in existence. A console, textbooks, a bike, last year’s phone — listed on Facebook Marketplace in the morning can be cash by dinner. Price slightly under the going rate and meet somewhere public.
• Plasma donation. The other real same-day answer, and the one every honest list mentions with a caveat: it is a medical procedure. New-donor promotions at large centers commonly run $50–$100 per visit, you must be 18+ and meet weight and health screening requirements, and there are limits on how often you can donate. Money usually lands on a prepaid card the same day.
• Same-day odd jobs. Moving help, yard work, furniture assembly — found through campus groups, neighborhood apps, or people you already know. Typically $20–$40 per job or $15–$25/hour, paid in cash or instantly by app when you finish.

Tier 2: money this week

This tier is where most of the sustainable options live. Delivery apps (DoorDash, Uber Eats) take a few days for background checks, then pay weekly — or same-day for a small instant-transfer fee. Babysitting and pet sitting pay the night you work, but lining up the first family or client usually takes a few days. Campus jobs posted as “urgent” — event setup, dining hall shifts — often start within the week.

Write It requires draft approval before posting. Standard videos earn $2 per 1,000 verified views in 14 days, plus $10 over 1,000 views in the first 7 days; $800 total cap per standard video. AI videos and slideshows earn $0.10 per 1,000 views with no bonus, capped at $500 each. Applications are closed.

How the Write It creator program works

Applications and new submissions are paused. The new workflow starts with an unpublished draft, then approval to post. A reviewer checks the public video against the approved draft before verifying views.

Submit a draft and wait for approval before publishing. Standard videos earn $2 per 1,000 verified views, plus a $10 bonus only after exceeding 1,000 views within 7 days of posting. Total pay, including the bonus, is capped at $800 per video. AI videos and slideshows earn $0.10 per 1,000 verified views with no bonus, capped at $500 per video. View pay covers the first 14 days after posting. Only approved published videos earn cash.

For example, a standard video with 5,000 verified views in its first week earns $20: $10 in view pay and the $10 bonus. An AI video or slideshow with the same views earns $0.50. Both are subject to review.

Earlier submissions keep their recorded rates, thresholds, caps and payment windows. The new rules apply only to new submissions.

Tier 3: two weeks and beyond (the hidden-lag tier)

A normal part-time job is a fine answer to a different question. Between applying, interviewing, onboarding, and the first pay cycle, “I got a job at the bookstore” typically means money in three to four weeks. Tutoring and freelancing have the same lag in client form: excellent income, slow first dollar. Start one of these for next month while a Tier 1 or Tier 2 option covers this one.
